I just installed the Forums Client. I get the following exception at startup.

On Startup, the application stops working with unhandled System.Windows.Markup.XamlParse exception.

OS: Vista Enterprise SP1 German
All prerequirements are installed.

Reboot doesn't solve the error.

Application didn't start ever!

I can't start the precompiled version as well. I think this related to running the app with a different culture than en-US. I'm running Vista Ultimate SP1 x64 in Polish. The app is looking for app.xaml with is not in the main assambly but in the satelite assembly for the en-US locale. I haven't looked in the source code yet, but if you set UICulture for the project you also need to add NeutralResourcesLanguageAttribute to AssemblyInfo. ForumsService.GetActiveLocales() returns a list of all locales for which Forums are available. Unfortunately, not all locales are supported by all OS platforms and the list returned by the API is not targeted to the caller's OS. So, Forums Client will have to select items from the list according to which OS it runs on.

Created Issue: Timeout exceptions thrown on slow connections

While testing with a low connection, ForumsService.GetActiveLocales() (line 256 in MicrosoftForumsServiceProvider.cs) timed out and threw an unhandled exception. Timeout exceptions from all web service calls should be caught and handled gracefully rather than allowing them to crash the app.

Created Issue: Header columns on forums grid display do not sort reliably

The grid display used to display the threads for a forum has 4 columns: Subject, Author, Modified Date, and Created Date. Clicking on the headers will sometimes sort the threads into ascending or alternately descending order. But, 9 time sout of 10 that I have tried to use this feature, the sort did not happen. In fact, nothing visible happened!

This should be fixed so that the columns can be sorted reliably

Fix checked in earlier today. If you want to try it now rathe than waiting for the next release, you can download and build the source.

Created Issue: Forums Client MSI should report all missing required tools

The MSI correctly detects any missing tools but only one at a time. Is there any way to check all requirements and report them all at once so the user doesn’t have to run our MSI 4 times when starting from a clean machine? If not, we should at least modify the error messages so that they identify all the required tools so that the users are warned.

Created Issue: "Not Connected" error dialog box is displayed twice

When you start the Forums Client without an internet connection, it displays the “Not Connected” error dialog box and then, after you click it, displays it again. THe dialog box should only be displayed once.

Repro Steps:

1. Select a forum. Select a Post.
2. Now click on "Forum" or other nodes oustide the forum folder.

Currently when we update the db only after complete sync of the forum. Instead commit to the db after each BatchSize sync. This would give better user experience when synching a forum with lot of threads.

Fixed this in previous build. It will submit a thread and all its posts when we downloaded them all.

When you double click on a column grip to have it automatically resize, the other columns don't resize correctly with it.

Repro steps:
1. Delete your database file
2. Start Forums Client
3. Open Options dialog an dmake sure that aut synch is enable and will fire every 5 minutes
4. Subscribe to C# IDE forum (just because it does not have a lot of traffic)
5. Wait up to 1 minute for auto synch to start. It will get some messages and then take down the throbber indicating tha tit has finished synching the forum. It hasn't!
6. Within 1 minute, auto synch will start synching the C# IDE forum again and will pull down more messages. This will happen repeatedly until the forum is fully sycnhed.

These repro steps will only work if the service happens to throw an error at the time. Which should be rare.

This only happens when the API throws an exception. What happens at this point is the synchronizing stops, and then will resume at its next run. This behavior is not bad but we should let the user know that a api error occured and we are going to continue synchronzing.
