Hello,
I was surprised the latest posts came January 09 (see prinscreen from WLMail http://pragl.com/tmp/NNTP_1.png) :)

Obviously the date was wrongly parsed, in this case should be 3.9.2009 (see message source http://pragl.com/tmp/NNTP_2.png)

Project Description

A project to create a client based application to interface with the new MSDN Forums platform.

Announcement

At present this project is on hold while we explore an alternate NNTP Bridge solution that would allow users to use their existing NNTP client to read/post to forums using Forums Web service. Also note that the forums web service APIs have changed since the last release of this tool and hence the latest release would not work at present

I am glad to announce the release of July 08 CTP Refresh.

What are we doing here?

My team and I are undertaking an endeavour that has been highly requested for quite awhile. We will be creating a client side solution to work with the MSDN Forums. Several attempts have been made in the past to solve this problem with varying degrees of success. This time around we have the support of the forums team to make sure that a public API is available on the brand new forums platform.

That doesn't really tell me much about your project...

You can find the detailed initial scope document here. In the scope document you'll find some more details about what kinds of things we want to do (and a couple we don't), a sample user scenario, and some information about our team.

What do I get out of this?

Well, if you are a frequent user of any of our forums sites and wish you had an offline option this is an excellent opportunity for you to drive the requirements so we don't build the wrong tool. If you are a developer wanting to try out some cool technologies like WPF, WCF, or maybe even LINQ if we need it, this would be a great sample app for you to learn from and also contribute to.

There are a couple ways for you to contribute to the project.

Tell us what we're doing right or wrong. Feel free to give us your feedback using the Discussions tab and let us know if this would be an useful tool for you, or if you think we're heading in the complete wrong direction.
Tell us what you would do! If you have other great ideas on features that we should consider you can either create a discussion in the Discussions area, or create a work item in the Issue Tracker for people to vote on.
Put your code editor where your mouth is. Eventually we're going to have to actually write the code for this thing. When we get to that point we will have plenty of opportunities for you to contribute to the project in a tangible way and to help implement features.

I am getting the below error, please let us know is there any change in contract ?

The message with Action 'http://forums.microsoft.com/service/IForumsService/GetCurrentUser' cannot be processed at the receiver, due to a ContractFilter mismatch at the EndpointDispatcher. This may be because of either a contract mismatch (mismatched Actions between sender and receiver) or a binding/security mismatch between the sender and the receiver. Check that sender and receiver have the same contract and the same binding (including security requirements, e.g. Message, Transport, None).

Due to the dependency on Windows Live ID SDK, I am unable to install this on Vista x64.

Any idea when / if Windows Live ID SDK can be installed on Vista x64?

On Startup, the application stops working with unhandled System.Windows.Markup.XamlParse exception.

OS: Vista Enterprise SP1 German
All prerequirements are installed.

Reboot doesn't solve the error.

Application didn't start ever!

I can't start the precompiled version as well. I think this related to running the app with a different culture than en-US. I'm running Vista Ultimate SP1 x64 in Polish. The app is looking for app.xaml with is not in the main assambly but in the satelite assembly for the en-US locale. I haven't looked in the source code yet, but if you set UICulture for the project you also need to add NeutralResourcesLanguageAttribute to AssemblyInfo. I am curious as to why, if msPrograms are backwards compatible, is v3.5 required when newer versions are already installed on my system.

Hi,

Still trying to use this program, but...

1. I'm able to see quite a few forums on MSDN. But no SQL Server forums, except one on SDS and a few on protocols. The "main" SQL Server forums don't appear in the MSDN list.
2. I was unable to find SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 and installed 3.5 SP1 instead. The program installed then, but attempting to subscribe to anything produces an error with this info:

Turned out that I was already signed up at MSDN. But it also turned out that the program doesn't work in a few different ways. I'm going to start a new discussion thread about that.

Hi, I'm not involved at all in this project and I haven't tested the application thoroughly, but I'll try to help you anyway. I'm just another Codeplex user.

I think the Readme file was initially built as a collection of Wiki pages, but the markup was broken somehow. For the time being, please try one of the following new links:
MSDN Forums
Microsoft Technet Forums
Microsoft Expression Forums

I hope the project managers will fix this documentation issue in a future release.

Hi. I'm trying to use this client, but not seeing any forums that I know exist.

In the readme file it says I should sign up with the Microsoft forums. There are three hyperlinks in the readme below this: MSDN Forums , Microsoft Technet Forums , and Microsoft Expression Forums . Each hyperlink bring me to this codeplex project page (for the client). How do I "signup"?

Hi,
I am programming with VB.Net and in my recent project which is build on SQL Server 2005, I should build a report interface which includes different parameters to give multiple options to user to build his own report from the target table. My question is "Is it possible to build a stored procedure with floating numbers of parameters ?". If so, I would be able to pass the selected parameters and make a parametrized "SELECT" command.

Spoke to the forums web services team. They are still trying to figure out if it would be possible to sync this previous webservice db with data from latest version of forums. I should know more by Monday. Shall keep you posted.

I'm wondering if we all can use the WCF Service.

I see it needs LiveID authentication and an appId to authenticate against.
But, when I try this line: client.GetThreadsByForumBrief(forum.ForumId, 1, 1, true).Results... a TimeOut exception get thrown...

Can you give me some light on it?
